Hopewell appoints deputy city manager nearly a month after terminating previous manager
HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Hopewell has officially announced its deputy city manager, nearly a month after a meeting that ended in the termination of two city officials without cause.
During city council proceedings on Tuesday, May 27, interim city manager Michael Rogers announced Stacey Jordan as Hopewell's new deputy city manager.
This comes nearly a month after the termination of both former city clerk Brittani Williams and former city manager Dr. Concetta Manker from a 4 to 3 council vote on Thursday, May 1, which sparked serious conversations regarding "matters of racism" during another Hopewell City Council meeting.
Jordan has served as Hopewell's Chief Financial Officer for the past nine months, reportedly leading improvements in financial operations, system implementation, streamlining processes and more.
According to the city, Jordan has over 20 years of experience in financial management and business leadership, and holds a Master of Accountancy from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Strayer University.
Prior to her time in Hopewell, Jordan was the chief financial officer for the Town of Dumfries and the City of Petersburg.
According to officials, Jordan will assume her new responsibilities immediately, while continuing to serve as Hopewell's chief financial officer until the city names a successor.
