January 6 rioter charged with felony in connection to Henrico burglary

HENRICO COUNTY, Va, (WRIC) -- January 6 rioter Zachary Jordan Alam, of Centreville, has been arrested in connection to a burglary in Henrico County.

According to court documents, during the Capitol riots, Alam was arrested after what is described as him punching the glass doors of the Speaker's Lobby, which were guarded by three Capitol Police officers and would later shatter. Alam also attempted to breach doors at the Capitol and threw objects at officers such as red velvet rope from a balcony.

Alam was indicted and later found guilty on counts of assaulting law enforcement officers, civil disorder and destruction of government property.

According to the Associated Press, Alam was sentenced to eight years prison in November. The judge who gave Alam his charges described him as, "One of the most violent and aggressive rioters."

Federal District Judge Dabney Friedrich also added "Those actions are not those of a patriot -- to say otherwise is delusional."

A day after his inauguration, President Donald Trump granted clemency for certain individuals involved in the 2021 Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol. According to court records, Alam was one of them.

On Friday, May 8, police responded to a residential breaking and entering on Arthur wood Place in Henrico.

According to police, Alam entered the house through the back door, then went upstairs where he was confronted by one of the residents where he stated he was there "to fix the Wi-Fi." After which he threw the items out of the window and left the residence through the front door.

Alam was then arrested May 9 and charged with the following:

  • Intentional Damage valued under $1,000
  • Class 3 Felony Burglary: At Night to Commit a Felony

He is not the only Virginian involved in the January 6 riots, there are approximately 20 other Virginians that were involved in the insurrection who have since been either granted clemency or are currently serving their sentences.

Alam's next court date is set for June 24 at 9:31 a.m. For the full list of all of those pardoned in the January 6 riot you can go to Justice.gov.
