Jockey unseated during Colonial Downs race, airlifted to hospital

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A jockey was airlifted to the hospital from the Colonial Downs racetrack on Thursday after officials say he was unseated from his horse.

On Thursday, July 24, jockey Tyler Conner and his horse, Stanza, were in the final stages of Race 7 at Colonial Downs when Stanza clipped heels and unseated Conner.

According to Colonial Downs officials, Conner was conscious when he was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The extent of those injuries was not shared by officials.

The rest of Thursday's race card was cancelled out of respect for Conner and his family. Those who may have wagered on any unfinished races are encouraged to consult Colonial Downs, per the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC).
