Jones, Taylor make final pitch to voters ahead of Democratic Attorney General primary
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- With less than 24 hours until Virginia voters choose the Democratic nominee for attorney general, both former Delegate Jay Jones and Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor are making their final pitches to voters.
“I know that my experience, not just as a legislator, but as an assistant attorney general and in the private sector, lends itself to this moment,” Jones told 8News.
“It is about knowing somebody, that when you say you’re gonna to take someone to court, you have actually been in the courtroom,” Taylor said.
Both Taylor and Jones promised to focus on holding the federal government accountable if President Donald Trump’s administration oversteps its authority.
“That’s what this job is all about in this particular moment, taking on this chaotic administration,” Jones said.
“They want to see an attorney general who’s going to challenge and review these executive orders for constitutionality and legality,” Taylor told 8News.
Jones added he’ll use the office to enforce Virginia’s consumer protection laws.
“We can go after the price gougers using the statutes that are on the books, we can hold the corporate polluters accountable, we can make sure that we’re working to make sure that people have affordable housing options here in Virginia,” Jones explained.
Meanwhile, Taylor said she’ll also focus on improving public safety.
“I know when we’re talking about families being impacted by gun violence. We need to have someone who‘s actually been in the room and dealt with those issues to be able to have those competent conversations moving forward,” Taylor explained.
The winner of the Tuesday primary will face Republican incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares in the November election.
