Jury duty scam targeting Chesterfield residents returns

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County Police is warning residents yet again of scam calls asking residents to pay a fine for missing jury duty.

According to police, people are reporting calls made by suspects posing as the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office where they ask individuals to pay a fine for missing jury duty in order to avoid going to jail.

Police assured residents that they would never call someone and ask them to pay a fine for a court proceeding.

If you, or someone you know, receives a scam call, hang up and call the agency they're claiming to be directly -- do not call any numbers given by the scammers. You can also report the scam call by calling Chesterfield County Police Investigations unit at 804-748-1268.

This scam comes after similar missed jury duty scam calls were being made in Chesterfield County several months ago.
