Keep Henrico Beautiful honors environmentally friendly properties

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee is recognizing environmentally friendly properties, selecting winners that showcase the best sustainable practices, as well as soil and water conservation.

According to a release shared by the county on Wednesday, June 25, the program is honoring each magisterial district’s recipient of the Land Lover Award and a countywide winner of the Clean Business Award. They were recognized at a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, June 24.

"The awards recognize residential and business properties that are attractively landscaped, well-maintained and litter-free," the release reads.

The following is a list of winners of the Land Lover Award for residential properties:

  • Gwinn family, of the Brookland District
  • Amber Brister, of the Fairfield District
  • Jared Strohschein and Maggie Graff, of the Three Chopt District
  • Michael and Tricia Gregory, of the Tuckahoe District
  • Virginia Carpenter, of the Varina District. Celeste Farms, at 7001 Osborne Turnpike, -- the recipient of the Clean Business Award.

According to the county, those nominated for a Land Lover or Clean Business award must participate in an ongoing recycling program, which includes composting, curbside pickup or drop-off service.

The recipients of a Land Lover Award utilize many conservation practices, including native plantings, pollinator plants, rain barrel, organic vegetable gardens, lawn reduction, water features for wildlife and reduction of chemical use.

As for the Clean Business Ward Honoree, Celeste Farms was noticed for its organic produce, farm-to-table restaurant, plant and crop biodiversity and composting.
