Kindergarten registration open for Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico Schools
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Parents of rising kindergarteners in Central Virginia can now register their children for the 2025-2026 school year.
Enrollment is officially open in Richmond, Chesterfield and Henrico, with each county offering different registration processes.
While all three districts allow online registration, Henrico is also hosting an in-person registration event, and Chesterfield requires families to visit their assigned school after completing an online preregistration form.
School officials urge parents to register early to secure their child’s spot. To enroll, families must provide several essential documents, including:
- The child’s birth certificate
- An up-to-date immunization record
- A health physical completed within the past year
- A parent or guardian’s photo ID matching the county of enrollment
- Proof of residency
Children who will be five years old by September 30 are eligible for kindergarten.
Broad Rock Elementary School administrator Carolyn Cox emphasized the district’s commitment to supporting families throughout the process. "We provide personalized support and use language support iPads to help bridge communication gaps," she said.
Henrico County Public Schools is offering additional in-person registration assistance, including translation services. In Chesterfield, parents must complete the online preregistration before scheduling an in-person visit to finalize enrollment.
