Local artist hosts event for Richmond’s first public art park
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A community-driven vision for Richmond's first public art park is taking center stage this weekend with a special event designed to rally support.
Local artist and Art Supply owner Ian Hess is rallying community support for an ambitious initiative to create Richmond's first public art park in the Manchester neighborhood -- and the city is invited to be a part of the vision.
The Little Giant Society, the creative non-profit organization behind the project, will host a special event on Saturday, May 18, from noon to 5 p.m. at The Veil Brewery in Scott's Addition, located at 1509B Belleville Street.
The gathering will feature live mural painting from four local artists, three DJs and an exclusive miniature model of the park, curated in collaboration with Richmond artist Matt Lively.
Attendees can join in on interactive activities like a naming competition for the park, give feedback on the concept, and enjoy a custom-made drink available for one day only.
While the event is free and open to the public, proceeds from the merchandise and donations will go towards bringing the public art park to life.
The initiative has already gained strong momentum, with signatures and support from thousands of Richmond residents and key city officials. To learn more or support the cause, visit The Little Giant Society's website.
