Lockout at Enon Elementary School lifted after uncredible shooting threat
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After Enon Elementary School was temporarily placed on lockout due to a shooting threat on Friday, the school division later determined the threat was uncredible following an investigation.
According to emails sent to families from the Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) principal, police received a call that a student was going to "shoot up" Enon Elementary School. Officers arrived at the school quickly and began investigating, per an email at 9:47 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.
The principal told families that school was briefly placed on "secure status" -- or a lockout -- during a short period during morning arrival.
Once the school went into a secure posture, buses that had not arrived at the school had been temporarily directed to another location, per the email.
In an email sent 20 minutes later, at 10:06 a.m. on Friday, CCPS said police determined that there was no credible threat.
In a third update shared at 4:18 p.m., the principal told families that the rest of the school day went as regularly scheduled.
"The rest of our school day went smoothly with students maintaining their regular routines of learning and activities. Students did well, and the day was calm and productive," the principal told families in email. "I appreciate your support, and our students and staff for handling the situation with care and professionalism. We are grateful for our partnership with local law enforcement and for the trust you place in us each day.
