Louisa Schools breaks summer meal record with nearly 50,000 meals served

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Louisa County Public Schools broke its all-time summer meals record this year, providing tens of thousands of meals to kids while they're out of school.

Thursday, July 24 was the last day of the school district's Summer Meals Program for the season. It began on Monday, June 9, with 11 meal sites operating throughout the county.

According to the school division, across those several weeks, the School Nutrition team gave out a record-breaking 49,500 meals to children between the ages of two and 18.

"A huge THANK YOU to every student, family and community member who visited our meal sites," the school division said. "It was truly our pleasure to serve you all summer long! Together, we made this summer one to remember!"
