Man arrested after domestic-related arson, violence investigation in Lunenburg

LUNENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 40-year-old man was arrested after a domestic-related arson and violent incident in Lunenburg County on Saturday evening.

Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, deputies with the Lunenburg County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported structure fire and an ongoing domestic dispute.

The sheriff's office said the incident involved a residential fire and multiple reported acts of violence.

Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set and that additional serious offenses occurred during the incident.

Following the investigation, 40-year-old DeZachire Radell Goode was taken into custody and charged with the following violations of the Code of Virginia:

  • Arson
  • Aggravated malicious wounding
  • Strangulation
  • Killing a dog
  • Kidnapping
  • Denying access to 911

“This was a serious and disturbing incident,” Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr. said. “Our office is committed to protecting victims, thoroughly investigating violent crimes, and pursuing accountability through the judicial process.”
