Man dies after being shot while allegedly attempting to rob man, woman in Henrico County

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 50-year-old man is dead after police said he was shot while allegedly attempting to rob a man and woman in Henrico County Saturday morning.

At 2:39 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, the Henrico County Police Division responded to a shooting report on the 2800 block of Fairfield Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound.

According to police, life-saving measures were carried out until Henrico Fire took the victim to a nearby hospital to receive treatment, where he eventually died due to his injuries.

Detectives identified the man who died as 50-year-old Ivan Hunt of Henrico County.

The investigation determined that a man and woman were inside a vehicle on the 2800 block of Fairfield Avenue when they were approached by a masked man who tried to rob them with a firearm.

According to police, the masked man fired his weapon, which caused the man inside the vehicle to fire his weapon in return. Detectives confirmed that the masked man was identified as Hunt.
