Man found dead in woods near train tracks in Albemarle County’s Covesville area
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man's body was found by police in a wooded area of Albemarle County's Covesville area over the weekend. Investigators believe the man may have died a few weeks ago.
On Saturday, June 28, officers with the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) responded to the Norfolk Southern Railway line in Covesville for a report of an individual believed to be dead.
According to a press release from authorities, the person who called 9-1-1 was on the train, when they reported they saw a person in a wooded area near the tracks.
After officers arrived, they found a man who had died. ACPD investigators believe the man may have died in mid-June, although, his remains weren't located until Saturday.
Police said the remains have been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond for final determination of the cause and manner of death.
Officials continue to investigate the incident as a "suspicious death."
