RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The second of the two men responsible for an armed robbery spree that led to the killing of a restaurant worker in February 2024 has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.
Yonathan Zelaya Beltran pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of Marvin Ramos-Hernandez in October 2025. According to the Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, he also pleaded guilty to the following:
- Possessing controlled substances
- Possessing controlled substances while possessing a firearm

- Attempted robbery
- Committing robbery with a firearm
- Committing a robbery that resulted in death
- Multiple possession of firearms charges
His accomplice, Ronaldy Monterroso, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and other charges in August 2024. He was sentenced to 68 years with 45 years suspended, resulting in an active sentence 23 years, according to online court records.
On the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to the 2200 block of Broad Rock Boulevard after it was reported an armed man had fired a shot inside the United Grocery store before taking cash and driving away in an SUV.
Around 10 minutes later, officers arrived at Lindo Amanecer Restaurant and Market, less than a mile down the street, where Ramos-Hernandez -- co-manager of the business with his brother -- was found shot dead.
"The shooting happened in front of families and children who were eating their meals at the time," a statement from Commonwealth's Attorney Colette McEachin on Friday reads.
It was later determined that the suspects had attempted to rob the Nuevo Rinco Latino store in the 33000 block of Broad Rock Boulevard, just minutes after the deadly shooting.
"All of these incidents were captured on store surveillance cameras and occurred in Latino-owned and operated business on Broad Rock Boulevard," McEachin explained in her statement. "Utilizing FLOCK technology, Richmond Police Department officers were able to locate the defendant’s vehicle and arrest him within one hour of these crimes."
According to police, Beltran and Monterroso were found around 45 minutes after the deadly shooting.
"The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office recognizes the support provided by the victim’s family and the Latino community over the course of the past year, especially given the current immigration climate," McEachin said in her statement on Friday.
