Man shot, woman hurt during Powhatan domestic disturbance, family member arrested
POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 73-year-old Powhatan County man is facing charges after a Wednesday afternoon domestic disturbance left two of his family members hurt.
At 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, deputies with the Powhatan County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home located in the 1000 block of Dorset Meadows Lane.
When deputies arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound, who was then taken to a local hospital. He was conscious and in stable condition, according to officials.
A woman was also hurt during this incident, but her injuries were not serious, per authorities.
In an update Wednesday evening, the sheriff's office announced that 73-year-old Howard M. Jordan, Sr. of Powhatan was arrested in connection with this domestic disturbance.
According to authorities, Jordan is a family member of both victims. His exact relation was not specified.
He faces a total of six charges, including:
- Two counts of domestic assault and battery
- One count of aggravated malicious wounding
- One count of discharging a firearm within a dwelling
- One count of brandishing a firearm
- One count of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
