Neighbors left concerned after man shot, killed by Richmond officer in Church Hill
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One man is dead and the Richmond Police Department is investigating after a reported mental health incident ended with an officer shooting and killing a man Tuesday night. The shooting happened the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 15, in Church Hill close to the intersection of North 29th and East Broad streets -- which, along with several other streets, were closed after police shot a man after they responded to “a call for a mental subject with a knife.” Police identified that person as 36-year-old Kyle Harris of Richmond. He later died as a result of his injuries early Wednesday morning. Now, residents who live nearby where the violence erupted are voicing concerns. Police received the call around 7:30 p.m., with officers being told that the man had allegedly been threatening people with a knife earlier that day. “I think there was concern from neighbors because there was uncertainty about what happened,” said another neighbor. The officer who shot Harris is on leave -- which is standard -- pending an investigation. Due to department policy, their name is not being released at this time.
