New Hilton hotel to be the center of $1 billion development in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Work has officially begun on the $160 million hotel that will serve as the "anchor" for Chesterfield County's Springline at District 60 project.

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Shamin Hotels -- the largest hotel owner and operator in Virginia -- broke ground on the Hilton Richmond The Mondelle, according to Chesterfield officials.

The $160 million full-service hotel and conference center will, upon completion, stand 11 stories tall and sport 270 rooms. It will also feature more than 30,000 square feet of meeting space and a 12,600-square-foot ballroom.

This is the first full-service conference hotel constructed in the Greater Richmond region in nearly two decades. The last equivalent development is Shamin Hotels' Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump, which came to be in 2009.

According to the county, the Hilton Richmond The Mondelle will serve as the centerpiece for Springline at District 60, a 42-acre mixed-use development that sits at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Chippenham Parkway.

The initial groundbreaking for the $1 bilion Springdale at District 60 took place over two years ago in September 2023. What was once the dilapidated Beaufont Mall is slowly but surely being reimagined.

"The Hilton at Springline [at] District 60 expands the county’s capacity to host gatherings that highlight our community’s strengths, support local businesses and create memorable experiences for visitors and residents alike," said vice chair of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, Mark Miller. "This is a powerful example of what we can achieve when public and private sectors work together."
