New Kent Highway reopens after downed power lines caused closure

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- New Kent Highway has reopened after downed power lines caused a closure Monday morning.

The New Kent County Sheriff's Office announced on social media at 7:09 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, that the 5700 block of New Kent Highway -- just east of Turnstall Road and Airport Road -- was closed in both directions due to downed power lines.

Officials said the road would be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Drivers were urged to choose alternate routes.

The sheriff's office later posted to social media that the downed power lines had been cleared, and the roadway has reopened.
