New mobile concessions trailer coming to Goochland Sports Complex
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Visitors at the Goochland Sports Complex will soon enjoy an upgraded food and drink experience with the rollout of a new mobile concessions trailer.
Prior to now, the Goochland Sports Complex served concessions from a brick-and-mortar concession stand. This structure was aged and needed "extensive, costly repairs," according to a July 22 press release from the county.
Rather than build a replacement concessions stand, the county chose to purchase a mobile concessions trailer. It's equipped with a flat-top grill, deep fryers, a popcorn machine, a pizza and pretzel warmer and a hot dog steamer, among other appliances.
The county said this trailer was determined to be the more "cost-effective and flexible option." Cost-wise, the choice to buy the trailer reportedly saved the county an estimated $275,000.
Regarding flexibility, officials said they hope the trailer will be able to serve a wide variety of uses -- more than a typical concessions stand could.

"While the old concession stand was utilized during county and youth sport events held at the Goochland Sports Complex, the mobility of the trailer allows for additional uses at additional department events and the opportunity to support first responders and residents during emergencies," the release reads.
Nonprofits like the Goochland Youth Athletic Association and the Goochland United Soccer Association will be able to use the trailer for events, per the county.
Even Goochland County Public Schools' culinary program can get use out of the trailer, as it provides a hands-on training opportunity in a mobile food environment.

“The mobile food trailer is a creative approach to solving a community need," said county administrator Jeremy Raley in the release. “I’m incredibly proud of how the team worked together to identify a solution that expands service to our community, while at the same time saving and conserving our taxpayers' financial resources. This approach has resulted in our team delivering a flexible asset that will serve our community in a variety of ways for many years to come.”
The trailer will officially start serving Goochland Sports Complex visitors in the fall. If you have any questions, you can contact the Goochland County Parks and Recreation Department at 804-556-5854.
