Off the Hook: Fishers of Men Virginia, Toys for Tots

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Stormtracker 8 Meteorologist Matt DiNardo was joined by special guest Andy Lavin as they talked in the WRIC NOW livestreaming studio about the Fishers of Men Virginia group's upcoming "Toys for Tots" event. Lavin is the Regional Director for the Virginia East - Classic division of the tournament organization Fishers of Men, which is dedicated to providing an experience that combines fishing and religion. "We started in 1998 in South Carolina, just a few small divisions and the main goal of Fishers of Men is actually to introduce fisherman and their families into a relationship with Christ," Lavin said. "So we use it as a ministry platform -- our goal is to have just top-level, high-quality bass fishing tournaments with a bit of a lighthearted atmosphere, [and] more of a family atmosphere." On Saturday, Nov. 2, people can come out to Osborne Landing on the James River to participate in their Toys for Tots event from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be an open tournament in the Virginia East Team Series, and attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unopened toy to "fill the boat" and enter a raffle to win prizes. If you are an angler looking to register for this event, click here. For more information about Fishers of Men Virginia, visit their website. “Off the Hook with Matty D” is part of WRIC NOW’s livestreamed programming. Tune in to next week’s show with an all-new guest at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
