One dead, another seriously injured in hit-and-run on I-95 in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chesterfield County man is dead and a Henrico County woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield County early Saturday morning. Police said both people had been standing outside their vehicles when they were hit.

At 2:24 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, Virginia State Police troopers responded to a reported crash on I-95 South in Chesterfield.

When troopers arrived, they found two vehicles stopped in the right travel lane -- a 2014 Jeep Compass and a 2014 Nissan Altima.

Police said an initial investigation shows that both vehicles had stopped in the right lane for "unknown reasons." Both were standing outside of their vehicles near the driver’s side doors, close to the center lane, when an unknown vehicle hit them.

The driver of the Jeep Compass, 31-year-old Asti Naimah Lacy, of Henrico County, was found injured and taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, 27-year-old Anthony Lee Crawford Jr., of Chesterfield County, died at the scene.

According to state police, investigators recovered vehicle parts at the scene, which they believed are parts of a white Volkswagen, possibly an SUV. Police believe the suspect vehicle will have damage along the passenger side, a missing passenger-side mirror and damage to the passenger-side headlight area.

Police continue to investigate.
