Over 71,000 homes, businesses without power in Central Virginia due to storms

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Over 71,000 homes and businesses across Central Virginia are without power amid Thursday's severe weather.

Severe thunderstorms hit the Greater Richmond Region beginning in the afternoon of Thursday, June 19. This stormy weather damaged power lines, causing outages across the area.

As of 8:30 p.m., about 71,037 Dominion Energy customers in Central Virginia are without power, according to the company's outage map. Over 30,000 of those customers are in Henrico County.

Here's a breakdown of these outages by locality:

  • Henrico County: 30,343 homes and businesses
  • Hanover County: 13,150 homes and businesses
  • Richmond: 7,983 homes and businesses
  • Petersburg: 2,827 homes and businesses
  • Chesterfield County: 2,667 homes and businesses
  • Powhatan County: 2,513 homes and businesses
  • Essex County: 2,510 homes and businesses
  • Goochland County: 1,973 homes and businesses
  • King William County: 1,434 homes and businesses
  • Richmond County: 1,145 homes and businesses
  • Northumberland County: 969 homes and businesses
  • Prince George County: 793 homes and businesses
  • Charles City County: 678 homes and businesses
  • Louisa County: 439 homes and businesses
  • King and Queen County: 412 homes and businesses
  • Amelia County: 248 homes and businesses
  • Dinwiddie County: 232 homes and businesses
  • Albemarle County: 229 homes and businesses
  • Buckingham County: 212 homes and businesses
  • Brunswick County: 155 homes and businesses
  • New Kent County: 125 homes and businesses

At the peak of the outage, nearly 90,000 homes and businesses had no power.
