RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Children's Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University held a magical, garden-themed prom for its patients on Saturday.

The event, known as the oncology prom, is hosted by members of CHoR's hematology and oncology teams -- aiming to offer patients a chance to celebrate school dances or other events they may have missed due to health care.

All attendees, which can range in age from 18 months to 16 years, have access to professional makeup artists that provide fairy hair, glitter tattoos and more. The event was held at CHoR on Saturday, May 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The patients and their families can also enjoy a catered meal, a scavenger hunt, crafts, games and even dance floor with a DJ.

8News got to speak with a family that attended the event, and how they view its impact.

"I love like going around meeting everyone talking to everyone, the decorations are so adorable and I just -- everyone is amazing, all the nurses here deserve so much they are so perfect," said a member of the family.
