RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Over 170 artists from around the U.S. showcased their designs at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond’s (VisArts) 61st Annual Craft + Design this weekend.

The annual event returned to Richmond’s Main Street Station from Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23, featuring shopping, live art demonstrations, workshops and more.

Since its inaugural show in 1964, the event has garnered a reputation as "the finest in museum-quality craft," according to organizers, drawing 9,000 attendees.

"We're connecting artists with buyers and connecting artists with their community and it's really fun to be able to not just shop, but you also get to meet the artists and talk to them," said Jordan Roeder. "It brings a lot of people into Richmond. I think it brings a lot of artists into Richmond."

The event also features food, beverages and art-making spaces, with a mission to support "the creative life of all people," Roeder said.

Carrie George of Richmond, who runs Carrie George Leather, makes handmade leather bangs and explained that she specifically comes to Richmond to attend VisArts' Annual Craft + Design.

"I think it's important for small businesses to get face-to-face with their customers, George said. "I think it's important for us to [get to know] with other artists. We're in this together. We're here promoting the arts, trying to keep [the arts] going."
