PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia State University (VSU) celebrated its graduating students during its spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, giving out about 650 degrees.
From courtroom to commencement stage: A VSU graduate’s journey of redemption
On Saturday, May 17, VSU held commencement processions in the VSU Multipurpose Center at 20809 2nd Ave in Petersburg.
The following are the two commencement ceremonies:
- 8:30 am processional/ceremony: College of Education & College of Humanities & Social Sciences
- 1:30 pm processional/ceremony: College of Agriculture, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Natural & Health Sciences, Reginald F. Lewis College of Business
Virginia Speaker of the House Don Scott and Virginia Senator Louise Lucas attended the ceremony.
"The true blessing for me was being able to speak to some of the young scholars here and some of the elder scholars here that are receiving their degrees, going on to do great things," Scott said. "Virginia State University is a farm of excellence and today we were able to see the next harvest."
