Police identify suspect killed in officer-involved Chesterfield shooting
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County Police have identified a suspect who was killed in an officer-involved shooting that took place on Sunday morning. According to police, at around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, an officer stopped a car that was driving erratically on Iron Bridge Road. The suspect car stopped on Jessup Road and the driver -- who has now been identified as 46-year-old Shawn D. Hill -- quickly got out of the car. Hill did not comply with the officer's orders, according to police, he allegedly approached the officer, resisted detainment attempts and began struggling with the officer. "During the struggle, Hill struck the officer several times and tried to get the officer’s gun," a release from police reads. "The officer deployed his Taser and pepper spray, but Hill was able to get back into his vehicle and flee north on Jessup Road." According to police, the officer followed Hill on Jessup Road and then on Pineland Road. As Hill made a U-turn in the area of Ronson Road and Spoke Court, he passed the officer and fired several shots that hit the officer's vehicle. Hill approached the intersection of Pineland Road and Ronson Road and saw a second officer, firing several shots at their vehicle which prompted the officer to shoot back, according to police. The two officers continued to follow Hill on Jessup Road as he approached the intersection with Iron Bridge Road. According to police, a third officer and the second officer then fired at the car, which slowed and came to a stop in a westbound lane of Iron Bridge Road. Police officials said no officers were physically injured during the incident and Hill was pronounced dead at the scene. The three officers who were involved have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with the department's officer-involved shooting policy.
