Powerball ticket worth $150K sold at Publix in Richmond, jackpot rises to $1.6 billion

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A ticket sold at a Publix store in Richmond won $150,000 in Saturday's Powerball drawing, as the jackpot grows to $1.6 billion.

Virginia Lottery officials announced on Sunday, Dec. 21, the winning ticket, which was purchased at 4951 S. Laburnum Ave.

No ticket in Virginia or anywhere else has matched all six winning numbers. Therefore, the jackpot for Monday, Dec. 22, has now grown to about $1.6 billion.

Officials also announced five other tickets, each winning $50,000, in Virginia. They were purchased at the following locations:

  • 7-Eleven, 14533 Lee Road in Chantilly,
  • Food Lion, 1859 East Little Creek Road in Norfolk,
  • BJ’s, 6607 Wilson Blvd. in Falls Church,
  • Murphy USA, 1860 Stavemill Crossing Lane in Powhatan,
  • Online, using the Virginia Lottery mobile app.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

A recent state revenue report found that Virginians are buying more lottery tickets compared to previous periods. Lottery ticket sales totaled $530.1 million in October, rising nearly 20% from last year's sale of $443.5 million.
