NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - President Donald Trump is in Norfolk Sunday to host a Salute to the Fleet, honoring Navy servicemembers as part of its 250th birthday celebrations.

Trump will be joined by First Lady Melania Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan, as he is set to give remarks at 3:30 p.m.

The president and first lady will also observe a Naval Sea Power, the USS George H.W. Bush, starting at 1 p.m.

The event was initially scheduled for Oct 3., but was moved to Sunday due to weather conditions and "unsafe sea states."

In a TruthSocial post, the president said this event will "mark 250 years of MARITIME DOMINANCE in the United States of America!"

Trump is also expected to discuss the lead-up to America's 250th birthday, which is July 4, 2026. He said this event will be the largest in Navy history, despite the president alleging Democrats tried "to stop our Military Servicemembers from celebrating American Naval History."

Following the commencement of the ceremony, the president and first lady are set to return back to the White House later tonight.
