Prince Edward to hold hazardous waste collection day

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Prince Edward County is holding a day committed to collecting household-related hazardous waste on Saturday.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can drop off certain household hazardous waste items at the parking lot located behind the Prince Edward County Courthouse, according to the county.

According to a post by the county, eligible drop-off items include:

  • Solvents (turpentine, paint thinner, etc.)
  • Paints (latex and oil-based paint, primers, etc.)
  • Vehicle fluids
  • Other items, including fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, etc.

What not to bring:

  • Cell phones
  • Prescription items or drugs
  • Sharp items and needles
  • Road flares
  • Tires
  • Ammunition
  • Commercial, industrial or agricultural waste
  • Propane cylinders
  • Explosives or fireworks
  • Radioactive waste material
  • Asbestos-laden materials
  • Animal carcasses
  • Out-of-county waste

In order to drop items off, proof of Prince Edward County residency, voter registration driver's license identification must be present.
