Pumpkin seeds sold in Virginia recalled for potential salmonella

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Canadian food manufacturer has recalled packages of Organic Jumbo Pumpkin Seeds that were sold in Virginia stores due to a potential salmonella contamination.

Advantage Health Matters has recalled its 8-ounce packages of Organic Jumbo Pumpkin Seeds -- according to an FDA announcement on Thursday, May 8 -- as an investigation remains ongoing into the source of contamination.

Salmonella, as described by the FDA, is an organism that can cause serious and even fatal infections in people, resulting in symptoms like fever, diarrhea and vomiting, among others.

The product, pictured below, is contained in clear plastic and marked on the back with lot number L250320200 alongside an expiration date of 05/02/2027 on the side.

These seeds were distributed to stores throughout Virginia as well as New York and New Jersey.

While no illnesses have been reported so far, product production has stopped while the company works to find answers.

Those who have purchased the seeds are encouraged to return them to the store they purchased them from for a full refund. Anyone with questions about the recall is asked to contact info@organictraditions.com.
