Richmond-based company donates $10K security system to local animal shelter

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Bastionpoint Technology, a Richmond-based company, has donated a new $10,000 camera security system to Colonial Heights Animal Control Shelter for free to deter illegal animal dumping.

In August, a dog was found abandoned outside of Colonial Heights Animal Control Shelter, attached by a leash to a fence. Staff at the shelter found that the dog was underweight and had a raw muzzle.

It is illegal in Virginia to abandon or dump an animal, and doing so is a misdemeanor.

Following the incident, Bastionpoint Technology donated and installed a new $10,000 four-camera security system at no cost to the shelter to deter illegal animal dumping.

The company said the project ensures the shelter is equipped with reliable, modern security to safeguard animals.

The shelter is located at 301 Charles H. Dimmock Parkway, and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
