Richmond community mourns ‘soul of Commonwealth Pediatrics’ pediatrician

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond-area community is mourning after the death of Dr. Jennifer Domer, a pediatrician at Commonwealth Pediatrics, who has been described as "the soul" of the practice.

Commonwealth Pediatrics announced Domer's death in a social post the morning of Thursday, March 19. She died earlier this week.

According to the practice's website, Domer, a Nokesville native, had been a board-certified pediatrician at Commonwealth Pediatrics since 1999.

All offices were closed Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18, to grieve, though an on-call triage nurse remains available for any urgent medical advice.

"She believed deeply that every child deserves to be seen, celebrated, and cared for," the practice wrote in the post. "That belief shaped everything she did, and it will continue to shape this practice."

The practice emphasized that her patients meant "everything" to Domer and added that her team will reach out to families personally to ensure their child's care continues without interruption.

In the announcement, Commonwealth Pediatrics highlighted the importance of taking care of one's mental health.

"In her honor, we want to remind our community that mental health support is always available," officials wrote. "If you or your child is struggling, please call or text 988 Day or night, someone is there."

Per Commonwealth Pediatrics' website, Domer's academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of William and Mary in 1992, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1996.

She also spent her pediatric residency at the University of Virginia from 1996 to 1999, the practice wrote.
