Richmond girl dies while on vacation in Paris after possible heart attack
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A young girl with ties to a Richmond Greek Orthodox church tragically died in Paris, France on Tuesday while vacationing with her family. She may have experienced a heart attack.
French media outlets like Le Parisien reported that a 10-year-old American girl had a heart attack while visiting the Palace of Versailles in Paris, France with her family on Tuesday, July 1. She died about an hour later. The girl reportedly had preexisting health conditions and was undergoing treatment.
According to Le Parisien's reporting, the child's exact cause of death has not yet been determined -- however, it's believed that extreme heat may have played a role.
8News obtained an email sent to parishioners of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Richmond. Within that email, church leaders grieved the loss of a member of the church's congregation, Penelope Tarasidis.
The email reads as follows:
"We are very saddened to share that our beloved Penelope Tarasidis unexpectedly fell asleep in the Lord on July 1st while vacationing with her family in Paris, France. She was a sweet and innocent little girl and will be missed by all. We express our heartfelt sympathy to the Tarasidis family and pray for the Lord to comfort them in their loss. Arrangements are incomplete but French and American authorities have been kind and helpful. May her memory be eternal." Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral
8News reached out to the church earlier on Thursday to confirm if Tarasidis is the 10-year-old girl who died at the Palace of Versailles. We have not heard back yet as of the time of reporting.
