Richmond invites residents to review plans for $38 million Arthur Ashe Boulevard Bridge Project
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- New plans are on the way for the Arthur Ashe Boulevard Bridge Project, and the City of Richmond is inviting residents to review plans for the new $38 million replacement project.
Richmond's Department of Public Works is hosting a community meeting for the public to review the plans for the Arthur Ashe Boulevard Bridge Project. The meeting is set to take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at the Science Museum of Virginia -- located at 2500 West Broad St.

According to the city, this bridge project will replace the already existing structure over the CSX Railroad at the crossroads between Broad Street and Interstate 64 and I-95, next to Scott's Addition and the Diamond District.
The city said the benefits of the new project will include:

- The replacement of a deficient bridge structure
- Enhancing accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles
- Advancing multimodal transportation networks
- Upgrading safety and decreasing the risk of crashes in the area

During the construction phase, the bridge will remain open with organized traffic shifts for drivers to maintain access. The city expresses plans to work with the community to increase safety and keep traffic disruptions down.

A lane on the bridge previously closed in April through May of 2024 due to repairs to one of the piers in the area, which had severely deteriorated on the bridge seats where beams are supported.
