Route 714 in Louisa County to close for bridge repairs

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Starting Monday, June 23, part of Route 714 in Louisa County will be closed to through traffic for a bridge rehabilitation project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

During the road work, through traffic will be given a detour route around the closure via routes 208, 646 and 604. VDOT said that access to driveway entrances on either side of the closure will be maintained for local traffic -- message boards have also been installed since June 9 to alert drivers.

VDOT Louisa Bridge crews will replace the steel beam timber deck with a concrete box culvert.

According to VDOT, the current Route 714 Horseshoe Farm Road bridge is posted at 24 tons and is 13.7 feet wide. The new structure would be capable of carrying all legal loads with a wider width of 21 feet.

If weather permits, the work is expected to be done by Aug. 30. For real time updates on traffic you can visit VDOT 511.
