State Police investigate crash that left one pedestrian dead in Powhatan County

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- One person is dead following a crash that occurred just after midnight in Powhatan County.
According to Virginia State Police, on Saturday Sept. 13 at 12:07 a.m., a 2012 Toyota Camry was driving south on Dorset Road and 200 ft south of Genito Road, when the car struck a pedestrian standing in the southbound travel lane of Dorset Road.
At the time of the crash the driver, of Amelia County, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured, according to VSP.
The Camry driver stayed at the scene, and according to police, "alcohol was not a factor for the driver, and no charges have been placed."
The pedestrian has now been identified as, 27-year-old Chance Tevin Burrell of Powhatan County, and died at the scene.
Officials stated that, "Alcohol is thought to be a contributing factor. Next of kin was notified at the scene by investigators."
This crash remains under investigation.
