StormTracker 8: A very soggy day with localized flooding possible

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - It will be a very wet day today with localized flooding possible and poor conditions on the roads. Things start to look better as we head later into the work week.

Steady to locally heavy rain will be with us this morning before slowly tapering to showers tonight. Localized flooding is possible so please remember the saying, "Turn around, don't drown". A flood watch is in effect until 2am Wednesday for all of central Virginia. A widespread 2"-3" of rain is expected by tonight with locally higher amounts possible. It will be a cool day with highs in the lower 70s.

Tonight, showers and storms will become more scattered and overnight lows will drop into the middle 60s.

Wednesday might start off with a little bit of sunshine however it will be warm and humid with highs around 80 and more scattered showers and storms are in the forecast especially for the afternoon and evening hours. Some of those showers and storms could have some locally heavy downpours.

Summer heat and humidity will be with us for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and we will see partly sunny skies. Friday looks to be the hottest with highs near 90 and heat index values in the upper 90s. The risk of late day isolated storms is also with us Thursday through Saturday before a finally fully dry day Sunday.

When all is said and done most of the area will see 2"-4" of rain by the end of the week with locally higher amounts possible. This will cause the James River to rise to unsafe levels.

Partly sunny skies return for Sunday with highs in the middle 80s. Next week we are looking dry right now with a mixture of sun and clouds and highs in the 80s.
