StormTracker 8: Cold tonight; nice looking weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - As expected, we are seeing the beginning of the long-awaited warming trend out of this Arctic Blast from this week across the 8 News Viewing area! Friday night into Saturday morning, will be another cold overnight period, with low temperatures dipping down to either side of 20 degrees under mostly clear skies and light winds. Saturday for the first half of this upcoming weekend, will be nicer than it has been this week, with high temperatures rising to around 45 degrees under mostly sunny skies and the winds turning southerly allowing for the warming trend to continue. Sunday for the second half of this upcoming weekend, will be finally back to seasonable temperatures, with highs near 50 degrees under partly sunny skies and light southerly winds. This upcoming weekend is the perfect weekend to hit the slopes for skiing, tubing or snowboarding at The Omni Homestead, Wintergreen, and Snowshoe with all the recent snowfall this winter season across the region. We will see a dry cold frontal passage on Sunday into Sunday night, which won’t really do anything to our airmass heading into early portions of next work week. Monday will be a mostly sunny day with highs 45 to 50 degrees. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with milder temperatures, rising to 50 to 55 degrees. Wednesday will be the mildest day of this current 8 day forecast period it appears, with highs 55 to 60 degrees under partly sunny skies and a possible PM shower or two. Then another relatively dry cold frontal passage is slated to sweep through on Wednesday night, bringing the return of chillier air back to Central Virginia. Thursday will be mostly sunny and much chillier, with highs 35 to 40 degrees. Friday will be partly sunny and chilly, with highs 35 to 40 degrees. Finally, I put watching for next Saturday, as it appears part of the viewing area could see an afternoon wintry mix possible with highs in the 40s under partly sunny skies. Again, a lot can change between now and then. Also, seeing up and down temperature swings heading into February.
