StormTracker8: A very busy Thursday
Richmond, Va. (WRIC) -- Central Virginia is in for a wild ride on this Thursday, March 12th, 2026. Details below.
Today’s forecast for this Thursday is a very busy one. We will see likely showers, possibly some thunderstorms during the daybreak hours through the early afternoon hours, which may transition over to a mix of rain and wet snow, as temperatures will crash the rest of today, and it will be windy throughout the day as well. The rain and wet snow will end between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. This huge change in our weather is thanks to a strong surface cold frontal passage sweeping through Thursday morning. Rainfall accumulations are expected to range from a quarter inch to an inch possible, while wet snow accumulations are expected to range from nothing to a possible dusting in spots, the mountains of Virginia out to the west and northwest could see a few inches of wet snow possible.

Tonight’s forecast calls for clearing out skies, colder temperatures getting down to around 30 degrees in Metro Richmond by Friday morning, which means areas outside of the Metro will fall into the upper 20s by Friday morning. This will be an absolute shock to the system, especially with how warm it’s been lately!
Tomorrow’s forecast for Friday calls for partly sunny skies, seasonable temperatures, rising into the middle 50s, and breezy conditions from time to time.
Saturday will be a beautiful day across Central Virginia, under partly sunny skies and highs near 65 degrees.
Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, with temperatures rising to 65-70 degrees and night showers developing.
Monday will bring another very busy weather day for Central Virginia, as another strong surface cold front will be sweeping through, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, warm temperatures near 75 degrees, windy conditions and crashing temperatures again.
Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day, and it will be a chilly day, under partly sunny skies, and highs near 45 degrees.
Wednesday will be another chilly day, under partly sunny skies, and highs near 45 degrees.
Finally, next Thursday, we rebound a bit in our temperatures, and we will see highs near 55 degrees under partly sunny skies.
