‘Summerween’ pet adoption event coming to King William this weekend

KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Looking to adopt a furry friend this summer? King William County residents can head to the local animal shelter on Saturday for a "Summerween"-themed event.
From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, the Regional Animal Shelter, located at 20201 King William Road, will open its doors for an adoption event -- Summerween: Clear the Shelter Edition.
According to an Aug. 21 press release, the animal shelter will be filled with Halloween decorations, sweet treats and, of course, adoptable dogs and cats.
“Walking through our kennels, you see so many eyes filled with hope," said Grace Rohler, program coordinator at the Regional Animal Shelter. "Dogs and cats who are just waiting for someone to choose them. Summerween is more than a fun event, it’s a chance to change dozens of lives in a single day. Every empty kennel at the end of the night will mean another pet tucked safely into a home instead of waiting behind shelter doors.”
All adoption fees will be waived for the duration of the event, with the shelter's goal to clear all the kennels and find homes for furry friends.
“We don’t just want to clear the shelter, we need to,” Rohler said. “When you adopt, you’re not just saving one life, you’re making room for the next animal who desperately needs help. If you’ve ever thought about adding a pet to your family, this is the day to do it. You’ll be giving them the gift of home, and in return, they’ll give you unconditional love.”
Staff will be at the shelter to share stories of the animals, according to the shelter.
