Trump administration wants to support federal law enforcement with office space in Richmond, other cities
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Trump administration is looking to increase support for federal law enforcement operations in more than a dozen cities, including Richmond.
Through a contract opportunity posted to the U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) website, the federal government is seeking competitive lease proposals for "administrative office space in support of law enforcement operations" in 19 cities -- including Richmond, Virginia.
The following cities across 14 other states are also listed:
- Alabama: Birmingham
- Florida: Jacksonville, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale/Sunrise and Fort Myers/Naples
- Idaho: Boise
- Iowa: Des Moines
- Kentucky: Louisville
- Michigan: Grand Rapids
- Missouri: St. Louis
- North Carolina: Raleigh
- Ohio: Columbus
- Oklahoma: Oklahoma City
- Pennsylvania: Pittsburgh
- South Carolina: Charleston and Columbia
- Washington: Spokane
- Wisconsin: Milwaukee
The federal government is looking to lease fully furnished office spaces in each listed city that can house the administrative side of law enforcement operations based there. The desired lease period is between 5 and 10 years.
No additional information on the nature of these federal law enforcement operations is provided within the contract opportunity. 8News has reached out to the GSA for more details, but has not heard back as of the time of reporting.
Richmond expert weighs in on National Guard deployments
As of the time of reporting, President Donald Trump's most recent National Guard deployment is on the ground in Chicago, Illinois, with Memphis, Tennessee believed to be next on the list.
