TSA to accept Virginia-issued digital IDs in over 230 airports

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently announced that over 230 airports will now be accepting Virginia-issued digital IDs. According to a TSA press release, people can use a Virginia mobile driver's license to verify their identity at airport security checkpoints equipped with digital ID readers throughout the country. Instead of using a physical photo ID, individuals can download and enroll in the Virginia Mobile ID app with their smart phone. To obtain a digital ID, you must have a valid Virginia driver's license or ID card, according to the TSA. (Photo: TSA) The aim of digital IDs is to provide travelers with a more convenient method of showing valid identification to TSA security officers. Although people are still encouraged by TSA to keep another acceptable form of ID on them, like a passport or card. Over 230 airports now have "credential authentication technology," according to TSA, which will allow Virginia residents to use a TSA approved digital ID at a variety of locations.
