HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Tuckahoe Elementary School in Henrico County has been named a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School, recognized as one of the top schools in the state for reading and math achievements.

On Friday, Jan. 9, the Virginia Board of Education honored Tuckahoe Elementary School as an Exemplary High Performing School, one of the two categories within the award program.

At Thursday's Virginia Board of Education meeting in Richmond, Principal Sonia Ford and Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) Chief of Leadership Ingrid Grant represented the school as it received the award.

“This recognition reflects the daily dedication of our teachers and support staff, whose commitment to high expectations, collaboration and care for every child makes excellence possible,” Ford said. “It celebrates our students, who rise to challenges with curiosity, perseverance and a love of learning.”

On Friday morning, Superintendent Amy Cashwell, school board member Marcie Shea and Jody K. Rogish of the board of supervisors and grant visited Tuckahoe Elementary School to celebrate with the teachers, staff and students of the school.

“The School Board and I are incredibly proud of what this designation means for the Tuckahoe community and for Henrico Schools,” Cashwell said. “It is a testament to the true teamwork between Tuckahoe’s leadership team and instructional and support staff, as well as the trust and engagement of our families.”

This year, the program changed from the U.S. Department of Education to each state for the awards.
