UVA to host The Basketball Tournament’s 2025 Virginia Regional
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) -- For the first time ever, The Basketball Tournament (TBT) -- a 64-team basketball blitz with a $1 million prize -- is bringing its Virginia Regional to Charlottesville.
From July 18 to July 23, the University of Virginia (UVA) will host the 2025 Virginia Regional of The Basketball Tournament at the John Paul Jones Arena, according to a press release from the university.
The eight-team Virginia Regional game will feature the UVA alumni team, Embrace The Pace, led by Kyle Guy and Kihei Clark. Both Guy and Clark are 2019 national champions, with Clark holding the record for the most assists and games played in UVA basketball history, according to the university.
Guy will serve as the team's co-manager, joined by Virginia men's basketball coach Johnny Carpenter.
“I’m super excited that TBT is coming to Charlottesville and that UVA will have their first alumni team,” Guy said in UVA's press release. “TBT has become such a great way for players to reconnect with each other and strengthen their bonds with the schools they played at. We’re looking forward to putting out a team UVA fans will be excited about and I’m looking forward to seeing a packed John Paul Jones Arena in July.”
The winner of the Virginia Regional will join all other regional-winning teams in the quarterfinals, which are set for July 29. The semifinals will then take place on July 31 and the championship game will be played on Aug. 3, with the winning team to receive a $1 million prize.
Tickets for all TBT games go on sale on May 6 and can be purchased online. For more information on TBT, visit its website.
