Vehicle downs utility pole across Mechanicsville Turnpike, causing closure in Henrico to Hanover County line

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Hanover County Friday morning, causing power lines to fall across Mechanicsville Turnpike, all lanes have closed in the area.

In the morning on Friday, March 6, the Henrico County Police Division announced that all lanes of Mechanicsville Turnpike were closed from Springdale Road to the Hanover County line.

Officials said a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Hanover County, causing power lines to fall across all lanes of Mechanicsville Turnpike.

Utility crews will reportedly assess the damage and work to replace the equipment.

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office noted in a social media post Friday morning that the downed utility pole caused a widespread power outage in the area.

Dominion Energy's online outage map shows that roughly 1,747 homes and businesses were without power in the area as of 8:40 a.m. on Friday.

Drivers were aske to anticipate a closure of several hours.
