Waffle House is coming to Emporia

EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) -- Waffle House is coming to Emporia in a marked expansion of the 24-hour service breakfast destination's reach in Virginia. The new location will become the first and only Waffle House between the Tri-Cities and the North Carolina border.

On Wednesday, May 28, Emporia officials announced that Waffle House, Inc. will be opening a new location within city limits.

"The addition of Waffle House not only brings a beloved brand to the Emporia community, but also represents a boost to the local economy through new job creation, increased commercial activity and enhanced visibility along the city's high-traffic corridors," the city said.

Officials may especially have a point when it comes to visibility, according to Waffle House's website. Right now, if you don't stop at a Waffle House in the Tri-Cities before continuing south on Interstate 95, you won't see another one until you cross into North Carolina.

"Emporia is open for business and this announcement proves it," said Mayor Carolyn Carey. "Waffle House is more than just a restaurant, it's a destination."

The city did not provide an estimated opening date.
