RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County firefighters are urging Virginia residents to be especially aware of Wednesday's increased fire risk after they battled a brush fire this afternoon. The Virginia Department of Forestry has issued a high fire danger warning for Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Wednesday, Jan. 29. Virginians are encouraged to avoid outdoor burning due to gusty winds, low humidity and warming temperatures, which have all made it easier for fires to spread. A brush fire in Chesterfield provided a tangible example of why these conditions are concerning. On Wednesday afternoon, firefighters with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to a brush fire on Hull Street Road. According to fire officials, it started in a piece of equipment and then spread, burning through some mulch.
