When will Central Virginia’s first snow melt away?
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Central Virginia has been transformed into a winter wonderland by back-to-back snowstorms -- but how long will it stay that way?
Central Virginia saw both its first and second snowfalls of the season on Friday, Dec. 5 and Monday, Dec. 8, respectively. These winter storms brought a few inches of snow each.
Consistently chilly temperatures are helping those inches stick around -- but they won't last forever.
StormTracker8 chief meteorologist Matt DiNardo said that the snow will start to melt starting Wednesday, Dec. 10, as the area hits highs of 44 degrees.

This streak will continue into Thursday, Dec. 11, as temperatures will only drop to 32 degrees overnight -- just above freezing, which means the snow will continue to melt instead of hardening up again. By Thursday afternoon, a good bit of the snow will be gone.
DiNardo said he can't promise the snow will be completely gone by Friday, or even by the weekend -- but he does think that many Central Virginians will see their lawns once more.
