Will Virginia end Daylight Saving Time?
RICMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- As Spring approaches millions of Americans will begin their preparation for the new season by springing their clocks forward an hour, reducing one hour of sleep -- but will Virginians do the same?
This practice has recently become slightly controversial with some questioning its effectiveness. However, two states have remained unaffected by daylight savings time, Hawaii and Arizona. These two sunshine states do not observe this practice due to the amount of sunshine they both get.
This year, Virginia introduced a bill looking to end the time change and have a permanent standard time. The bill stated that by exempting the state from this change it would make "Eastern Standard Time the standard time in Virginia year-round."
However, House Bill No. 2739 failed and Virginians will continue to observe the holiday along with the 47 other states who observe it.
The time change will happen at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9.
