RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As the winter storm continues and roads begin to freeze over, Virginia State Police (VSP) troopers have responded to more road crashes.

As of 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, troopers from the Virginia State Police have responded to 378 crashes, with 28 of those involving injuries across the Commonwealth. There has also been one fatal incident in Northern Virginia, but the weather was not a factor.

Of the 378 crashes, 86 were in Central Virginia, with two resulting in injuries.

VDOT advises drivers to avoid roads until mid-morning Monday

As the winter weather continues across the Commonwealth, VSP is urging drivers to stay off the roads throughout the day into Monday. If you are driving, remember to leave room for Virginia Department of Transportation trucks and emergency crews to do their jobs on the road.

Motorists should also remember that the storm may impact emergency response times for stranded drivers.
